Family Law
We recognise that Separation and Divorce can be a painful and unsettling time for you and your children, both emotionally and financially.
We offer advice, assistance and legal representation in relation to the following areas:
- Divorce and Separation
- Financial matters
- Children
- Cohabitation
- Collaborative law
- Mediation
- Arbitration
We have a dedicated specialist team of solicitors all of whom are either accredited specialists by The Law Society or Resolution.
Our team are all members of Resolution which means they are committed to trying to deal with matters in a constructive non-confrontational way. We can offer real alternatives to the traditional way of resolving family law related issues. One such alternative is Collaborative Family Law. This process finds practical and amicable solutions to family issues without litigated court proceedings. Each person appoints their own collaborative family lawyer, so benefits from independent advice. Instead of lawyers negotiating by letter or telephone, the couple and their collaborative lawyers take part in focused meetings to work things out face to face.
The collaborative process creates safe and confidential environment in which the couple can express their concerns and negotiate an agreement. The couple can call on advice from other collaborative professionals as necessary. There is no rigid timetable (as there is with financial court proceedings) so this means that the timescale can fit the needs of the couple. Generally speaking collaborative agreements are reached much faster than taking financial issues through the courts to a final court hearing.
For more information about the collaborative process please visit www.collaborativelawnorfolk.co.uk.
We also understand that at this time there is a concern about running up uncontrolled legal costs. Legal Aid is now no longer available for a number of traditional areas of family law following recent changes introduced by the Government.
Family law work can be unpredictable in terms of legal costs, which is why, where possible, we have devised a range of Fixed Fee services for certain areas of our work. Furthermore there are a number of options available in respect of funding your case which we can discuss with you, some of which you may not even have considered.
Our specialist Family Law team is committed to helping you through this difficult time by offering an affordable service without compromising your best interests.
We offer fixed fees for the following service areas:
- Cohabitation agreements
- Separation agreements
- Pre-marital /nuptial agreements
- Parental Responsibility agreements
- Divorce proceedings
