Despite the effects of an Essex Boarding School and University at Leicester, David is a Norwich man born and bred.

He qualified in October 1980, after completing his training at Overbury Steward and Eaton in Norwich, where he discovered his love for Family Law. His first job post qualification was a short stint with Howes Percival in Northampton as a Civil Litigator, but the call of Norfolk and of Family Law was too strong.

He joined Hood Vores & Allwood for the first time in 1983 as an Assistant in the Litigation Department working with Oliver Frankl and Barry (now District Judge) Rutland, but left after 18 months to become a Partner at Howard Killin and Bruce in Great Yarmouth. In both posts he worked on all types of litigation cases.

In 1991, the chance came up to return to Dereham and he grabbed it quickly. He has practised almost entirely in Family Law since 1994, though he has also done Professional Negligence, Housing and Licensing cases.

His time away from the office has mainly been spent playing or watching sport. He is a keen Norwich City fan, having first been to Carrow Road aged six, sitting on his father's knee. He has been a single-figure golfer, and a fine club cricketer having captained Norwich Wanderers CC (now Norwich < Coltishall Wanderers CC) for 5 years.

His main sporting prowess however can be seen as an umpire on the hockey pitch and he regularly officiates in the England Hockey League as one of the top 50 umpires in England.

More recently, David has been spending his time as a family man after the birth of his daughter Maddie in May 2008, 24 years after the birth of his son Phillip.

David was elected as President of the Norfolk and Norwich Law Society for 2009.
